The Wars Return – The Start Of Something Amazing For TNA Wrestling!

The Monday night wars returned with a vengeance this past Monday night, well, one company gave it there damned all whilst the other failed to raise a spark in their up market arena, and it’s just this that made me even happier for the outcome of both events. On one hand you have Impact, new to Mondays and putting on one hell of a show for the fans that were smart enough to tune into Spike, and the other, an absolute abomination of a TV telecast that bored the hell out of my TV screen for the majority. It was this ladies and gentlemen that made me raise the question, just who is the biggest and best wrestling company in the world meant to be? Because on this occasion it certainly wasn’t Vinnies clang attempting to stuff crap down people throats, cough, the Raw main event, cough.

On Impact we saw a lot of new faces, a lot of old ones, and a few surprises, but one hell of an exciting show. Hogan was dressed to impress tonight, kitted out in the full Red and yellow, O yes, Hulk and Abyssamania were certainly running wild on TNA, this followed by a major swerve heel turn from the returning Sting made great TV, giving the Hulkster and Abyss one hell of a savage beating and pushing the tag match back into the main event later on in the night.

Thus also resulting in TNA President, Dixie Carter putting Sting in a match later on in the show against a surprise opponent, which ended up being Mr Monday Night, RVD. Getting by far the biggest pop of the night, all bar Jeff Hardy at the end of the show, and picking up a quick win over Sting, setting up a feud between the two. The Impact Zone live crowd were on fire, not one person in their seat, jumping to the rafters, this was also one of the ingredients that made Impact the better show, actually having a live crowd instead of the graveyard over on Raw, a much more appealing look for TV.

The actual matches involved in Orlando weren’t to shabby either, a last minute three way X Division title match, between Doug Williams, Kazarian and Christopher Daniels, whilst Raw were treated to a short and very unattractive match involving The Miz and The Big Slow. Again, if the US viewers were smart enough to actually watch Impact, they’ll have seen a match with twice the quality of that of what Raw had on it’s whole show, and that’s from TNA’s mid carders? Need I say anymore.

That and the crowning of the new TNA Knockouts Tag Team Champions, although the match wasn’t the greatest, again, it shone above anything those barbie doll divas could do on Raw and again would have been a great attraction to new  Impact viewers. The Beautiful People walked out with the belts thanks to a interference from Daffney, again, someone you would never see on WWE TV.A great alternative.

As for the actual main event, well, as a TNA fan whose been waiting for this night for the best part of four years, I and the rest of the wrestling world was not disappointed. Hogan and Abyss completely tore the house down, in a good way as well, Hogan was left for Flair and Abyss with AJ as everyone had hoped, and Hogan actually looked quite good, busting Flair’s head wide open [seriously that guy needs to cut down on the blading] and unleashing some fiery shots with daughter Brooke looking on happily in the background.

The ending was as exciting as anything Raw had to offer as well, whilst Raw put on what could possibly be one of the worst things I’ve ever seen including Cena, Vince, Batista and a load of other unknown mid carders, TNA put on a mayhem clinic in Universal Studios. Before unleashing it’s final surprise of the night, Jeff Hardy coming to the ring to save Hogan, Abyss and The Pope from the ravenous beating from Wolfe, Flair and AJ. As you can imagine the crowd went absolutely ballistic and if the wrestling fans have any sense they should know were to tune in either next week, or in two weeks time when Impact goes live once again.

With the debuts of RVD, Hardy and Shannon Moore to add to the list of the TNA roster, can anyone actually argue that TNA don’t have what it takes to compete with that distracting sports entertainment company up north? I don’t think so. If TNA carry on like this for the next 6 months and Raw keeps on bringing the house down with a bag full of crap, very soon people will turn over, and people will watch Impact over Raw, it’s just now, a matter of getting Wrestlemania out of the way, and TNA are cleanly on their way to greatness.

Over The Top – A New WWE Low!

I have just received word that WWE has added yet another new PPV to it’s on going onslaught of terrible gimmick events scheduled this year. Only this one is a replacement name, and a one that no doubt in the coming weeks will be met with over the top criticism from wrestling fans, including myself.

WWE Wild Card , another new PPV on the WWE schedule was due to take place on May 23rd [The date ring a bell?]. Well, a PPV will take place on that day but not Wild Card as first announced. Instead it will be replaced by a PPV named WWE “Over the Limit”. The name is very similar to one of WWE’s former PPV events, “Over The Edge”, the PPV in which Owen Hart fell to his death in 1999.

[^^^ The promotional poster from that tragic night in '99]

Not only will the event be re-named to the almost exact same name, but it will take place on exactly the same day, May 23rd 2010, 11 years after the fatal accident which shook the wrestling world and the WWF at the time. Thankfully the event is not taking place in the same arena, or that would just be too much.

Maybe WWE will recognise the tragic incident on the night, with Bret Hart making a speech at the start of the PPV addressing what actually happened 11 years to the day, or maybe it’s just freakishly similar and to no fault of WWE, just a coincidence, but sadly, only time will tell, I just hope WWE do this right, and not use it as the return to the past in a bad way.

Ryan Devlin’s Picks For The Golden Robe Wrestling Awards [The Proffesional Opinion]

Well I thought this would be a little bit of fun to fill in my Monday night, I just had to write my opinion and thoughts on these so why the hell not. The Golden Robe Awards is an annual wrestling award voted for by fans of wrestling from UK newspaper, The Sun, and recently some of the top wrestling writers in the world have stated their opinion on who should win what, so as I don’t get a mention on their site, I’ll just have to write it on here, with yet another professional writing his views on the categories in hand.

So They Say They Can’t Rule A Whole PPV? – How I Would Book An All X Division Destination X PPV!

Originally TNA’s next PPV offering was booked to be one of THE most exciting, original, new branded PPV’s on the whole TNA yearly calender. This made me and thousands of TNA maniacs very happy, finally the guttered down X Division was getting put back in the spotlight again, finally, TNA are going to devote a full three hour paying event to the quality full on style of the X Division. That was of course until the decision was made to scrap the idea of a full X Division PPV, although the X Division will get some major spotlight in this event, it will not headline, nor will it fill the card with exciting death defying matches, instead we will be treated to the annual Ultimate X frenzy and the rest, well, your usual TNA PPV offering.

Now this decision was made because Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoif convinced TNA management that the X Division doesn’t have enough pulling power to hold out a full three hour spectacular, they said and I quote, it will look like an indy show and PPV buys will significantly plummet. Well, to be fair, I can see were they are coming from, but if you book this event right, with the right guys headlining and in the right matches, this PPV could end up being the show dedicated to the X Division every year, and would be one of those PPVs you know you’ll enjoy no matter what. Hell it even has a name branded for the X Division.

Not only would this work to it’s finest, but it will give the rest of the TNA roster, I.E the main eventers, Knockouts and Tag Team division enough time to work up some great matches for TNA’s third biggest event of the year, Lockdown.

Well that’s my brief rant over, now let’s get onto the point of me writing this, to show TNA the card that would have made this event special, and would definitely be one of the most praised TNA PPV offerings ever.

Better Late Than Never…TNA Live In Glasgow Review & Photos!

TNA Wrestling LIVE!

Saturday 23rd January 2010

Glasgow Braehead Arena, Scotland

It was just the other day, I was sitting at home, wetting myself all most at the thought of in just 24 hours from now, I’ll be in my seat, watching TNA Wrestling Live. Having booked the trip six months prior, I guess you could imagine how excited I was, and wasn’t disappointed.

Only one thing could be written out of my mind this week, and that would be my TNA Live experience this past Saturday night from the Braehead Arena in Glasgow [I wrote this a few days after the event if your confused with the timing]. The first thing I want to touch on here, is what a stupid bloody place to put an arena, right bang inside a shopping centre, and not the best of shopping centres to get around.

The fan interaction experience. Now that is a sore subject when it comes to this arena. Last year me and a friend went to the Manchester date, however we did not have fan interaction tickets so we missed out last year. But from what people told me, it was a well run event, and was quite enjoyable, so I thought, what the hell, let’s do it this time round. When looking back at the que I couldn’t believe this many people had actually bought fan interaction tickets, the line but went so far back you couldn’t see the end from were we were standing, but we got in reasonably quickly and were shown straight to the merchandise stand. Had all the TNA talent been on show then this would have been money well spent, £15 a ticket, what could be better, well in fact from the looks of things, TNA had half as many talent on show as they did last year, with only Amazing Red, Hernandez, Chris Sabin, Suicide, Earl Hebner, Hamada, Beer Money, Samoa Joe, Taylor Wilde and Sarita there to sign autographs and take photos. It was all a very rushed process with some guy shouting in your ear whilst queuing, “Make sure you have your cameras ready, hurry up now, hurry it along, move down the que”, having this moron scream in your ear when your trying to meet the talent was not fun at all. But fair play to the talent that were there, they were all happy to ignore him, smile and take photo’s with every fan that asked for one. The nicest stars I met were no doubt Amazing Red, Chris Sabin, Taylor Wilde and of course, the coolest guy of them all, Samoa Joe. Talking to everyone individually, and cool to take photo’s at the ready, the only guy who wasn’t sitting down but standing through the whole thing chatting with everyone that walked past. A true professional, screw the Nation of Violence crap, this guy should be renamed the nicest man in wrestling.

A Breif Look At WWE Elimination Chamber & My Predictions!

The first in 2010 of WWE’s branded gimmick PPVs, will it work, or won’t it, well I’m going to lay it out right here, right now, I couldn’t care less what the event is called, as long as WWE push the right guys and make a great head start to Mania next week. Yes I was as shocked and embarrassed as the next life long wrestling fan when I saw this years PPV schedule and how much WWE are basically pissing on good gimmick matches to make a quick buck i.e Money in the Bank, but we’ll talk about that another time don’t you worry.

So anyway, with the site been down all week nearly and Elimination Chamber a mear two hours away, let’s get on with my good old predictions and how the event should plan out, in the mind of myself.

WWE Divas Championship – Maryse vs. Gail Kim

Let’s kick it off with a match that I really don’t give a rats arse about and that would be the Divas Championship finale match between Gail Kim and Maryse. And as great as Gail Kim is and how much of a better wrestler she is compared to the barbie doll named Maryse, I think it’s safe to say Maryse will walk out of St Louis tonight as the new Divas Champion. Gail hasn’t been used right since she returned to the company and with Maryse been the new “big thing” in the eyes of the creative, there’s noway in hell Gail will be given the strap tonight.

One thing I will point out though is that if life had a fast forward button, this would be the time to press it. Yes Gail is a tremendous worker and a fine women to have at your disposal, but against the likes of Maryse on PPV, It’s just not something I care about. Looking at the competition factor, TNA could easily book Knockouts matches on their shows because the Knockouts can wrestle, cause some tension and most wrestling fans are actually interested in seeing them, all bar Lacy “I can’t sell a  Von punch” Erich. I might be the only person on this planet who wouldn’t have minded seeing a Divas Elimination Chamber, now that would have been worth watching with the abysmal women roster WWE have at the moment.

Prediction – Maryse

WWE Intercontinental Championship – Drew McIntyre (c) vs. Kane

I’m going to make a confession here, I haven’t watched Smackdown since the return of Edge and I’m totally backlogged with episodes of it on my planner and still haven’t found any time to watch them, so for this prediction, I will say McIntyre will walk out of this event tonight with the belt in tact. But that’s not to say I think the guy will win. Kane being the waste of decent talent he is will no doubt win by a DQ or interference hence Drew keeping hold of the belt tonight. It does seem a weird one to put on PPV looking at the rest of the card, but should keep for a decent watch before the two big ones later on.

Prediction – Drew McIntyre to keep the IC Title

Smackdown Elimination Chamber [World Heavyweight Title] – Undertaker (c) vs. John Morrison vs. R-Truth vs. CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho vs. Rey Mysterio

I have so many great predictions for this match, this is definitely the one I’m most looking forward to watching. Take for example the possibilities in what WWE could have here, a Michael’s interference and pick up the World Heavyweight title going into Mania, and then to defend against the Undertaker in his rematch clause match-up. God could imagine.

Or even Y2J to pick up the title and take the belt straight to the Main Event at Wrestlemania, were he would put the gold on the line against the winner of the 2010 Royal Rumble, Edge. Again due to some HBK interference tricks. Picture this, it’s down to the final two men, The Undertaker and Chris Jericho [Mainly because Taker will be the last one to enter the Chamber to lower the risk of major injury] Michaels distracts Taker and super kicks him, Jericho then hits the lifeless carcass of the Undertaker with a lionsault to get the win.

This way, Edge could cash in his shot for the World Heavyweight Title and get his revenge on Jericho, and by doing so Undertaker won’t get his rematch, giving him no choice but too face Michael’s at Mania, in his last shot to appear on the grandest stage of them all.

Out of all the possible scenarios I tried to come up with, that one was the most realistic.

Although I hope CM Punk will be locked in his cell for a while with a microphone, hurling abuse at the live crowd and no’one can do anything about it until he enters the match, that would be PPV gold.

Prediction – Chris Jericho

Raw Elimination Chamber [WWE Title] – Sheamus (c) vs. John Cena vs. Triple H vs. Ted DiBiase vs. Kofi Kingston vs. Randy Orton

What were up to the main event already, this PPV will be over before it’s begun, or at least in the prediction column it will. For me this one is more predictable than the Smackdown match of the same. But it’s still split into two halfs of who exactly will leave the WWE Champion tonight.

My main guess to this would be Triple H, yes I know it’s not like he needs the belt or anything, but it would set up a programme between himself and Sheamus which would eventually end at Wrestlemania in a match between them both. Triple H has always spoken really highly of the Irish Born champ and it wouldn’t surprise me one bit if that was the main event on the grandest stage of them all.

That or of course Sheamus’s big push could carry on tonight and he could defeat the Game tonight when they turn into the final two competitors,  Using his title belt as a weapon and cheating to win the match, this could still cause heat between the two and turn into a good feud going into Mania, this way Sheamus’s title run could continue and Triple H, as per usual will get to shine with someone very alike, and who could work an excellent match with him at Wrestlemania. I think i like that idea a lot more. But Triple H will walk out of Wrestlemania the new WWE Champion if that plan does come into play.

Prediction – Sheamus

Once again, I hope everyone enjoys the last PPV before the grandest night on the wrestling character in April, Wrestlemania.

WWE Royal Rumble 2010, The Ryan Devlin Era Review!

The Road to Wrestlemania has well and truly begun, the WWE’s annual Royal Rumble extravaganza kicked off the long and winding road to the biggest date on the wrestling calendar and did so in tremendous fashion and pulling together to make the start of WWE’s 2010, a one that we will remember for a very long time to come. We saw the best and most stable performance from The Undertaker for a very long time, Orton and Legacy have split, or have they, and the Rated R Superstar returned 3 months early to win his ticket to headline Wrestlemania this coming April.

Now in this week’s column I’ll basically be combining the Ryan Devlin Era with my Rumble review, purely because if I wrote two separate ones, they would just be a genesis of each other and would get very samey very quickly, so let us begin with the ECW Title match that kicked us off as usual. I thought this was a strange match booked, as just on WWE’s last PPV outing at Tables, Ladders and Chairs, the ECW title bout was one of the finest matches of the night, if not the finest. When Christian took on Shelton Benjamin [whom always shines when put on PPV] in a ladder match. Now just two months later [I know, I can’t believe it’s been that long either, good on WWE for that however] Christian is defending his belt in just your everyday standard match against Ezekiel Jackson. However though, this match was solid, and I never thought that before this match got going I’d be admitting that, it was hard hitting, quite exciting and during the most part of the contest, there was no way in hell of judging who’d walk out with the lightest belt in the WWE universe. That’s what made this match, and the rest of the card special, there was no way of judging who’d walk out victorious, and again, well done to WWE for playing the right deck of cards for once in a while.

It had to end sometime and Christian did walk out victorious and his “extremely” successful ECW title reign continues, albeit it doing nothing for his career or were Captain Charisma should actually be sitting in the WWE roster, which is at the very top.

WWE Royal Rumble 2010 – Preview & Predictions!

Another year, another Rumble, but for the first WWE PPV of 2010, their seems to be a new era looming in the air, I can feel it, I can smell it, and to be honest, I’m shaking as to what tonight’s no doubt “historic” Royal Rumble will bring to us. For the first time in many a recent year, we have a 30 man over the top rope Rumble that in all honesty, is impossible to predict. Let’s have a look back at the past few winner’s starting with four years ago, the 2006 Rumble winner, Rey Mysterio, to prove just how stale the second biggest WWE event of the year has gotten. I have nothing against Mysterio, he was given a good draw and a top push for this win, entering at number 2 and being the longest running man ever to be inside the Royal Rumble match, this was as exciting as it has been for the last few years, but in all honesty, who else was actually in the Rumble that year who wasn’t either, a. A well known star who’s accolades wouldn’t really be hurt for not winning it, or b. a Young up and coming star ready to take the helm and headline the biggest event on the wrestling calendar? That’s correct, zilch, no’ one.

TNA Genesis 2010 – The Ultimate Review!

So, once again the Hogan/Bischoff era hits TNA hard in the goolies in a matter of weeks. Bringing in Hogans tagalongs was once thing, putting Sean Morley on PPV was another, tyring to control the crowd reaction at a live Impact taping, well, I think that speaks for itself, but, the time had finally come, for weeks the rumours had been circulating, and for weeks, TNA diehards were fearing what was to come, but on January 17th 2010, Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff have officially scrapped TNA’s signiture 6 sided ring and brought in the traditional four sided one. However, going off topic from the review here, I can confirm, courtesy of a Jeremy Borash interview, TNA will be bringing over the 6 sided ring for their upcoming UK tour this week and next, so they haven’t officially scrapped it for good, or for the moment at least.

It was a move that made me, and obviously an arena filled with TNA fans extremely mad, and in a way, kind of ripped off, as during the first segment of the first PPV of 2010, in which Hulk Hogan and Bischoff introduced the new iMPACT Zone and four sided ring to the world, was met by mass chants around the venue of “we want six sides”. This made me very worried about the rest of the PPV, and how the crowd would react to this mass change in the TNA direction of 2010. In Hogans own words, they both had to leave the scripted promo to go solo and defend their move to scrap the TNA branded ring by saying, “six sides only got you so far, but WE are now taking you straight to the top”, however this didn’t really brand well with the “TNA Maniacs” as they still booed this new move. I think I speak for the world when I say I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall in Dixie Carter’s office when she was watching this epic start to the PPV.

TNA Genesis 2010 – The Ultimate Preview and Predictions!

OK, first PPV in pro wrestling of 2010 gets underway in a matter of hours, so it seems like the perfect time to do what only i can do best, and deliver a hopefully quite accurate preview and prediction column on the show ahead. As always there are two ways to read these columns and no doubt you’ll be using one of those as we speak, either my very own handcrafted worldofwrestling.net, or the illustrious wrestlehustle.com, however, before I bore you all into a comba, let us get under way as time is ticking by before bell time later tonight.

Sean Morley vs. Christopher Daniels

If someone else finds this feud weird please give me a holla, mainly because from the way Morley was portraying his “new” character on Impact, he talked like a heel, a porn staring heel, with the ambition to destroy a pro wrestling company with his cheaply made adult orientated films. Then here comes “heel” Daniels, a TNA original with only one purpose, save TNA from Morley’s brand of crap and making a mockery of what TNA is trying to achieve. Really what’s going on here.

This isn’t going to be my must see bout of the night, but with everything else that’s coming along with this event, I can’t see anyone remembering Genesis 2010 as the night Daniels and Sean Morley made history, but hopefully Morley can keep up to pace with Daniels and should deliver what’s probably going to be a fairly quick but enjoyable match.

Prediction – Christopher Daniels.
