The Wars Return – The Start Of Something Amazing For TNA Wrestling!
The Monday night wars returned with a vengeance this past Monday night, well, one company gave it there damned all whilst the other failed to raise a spark in their up market arena, and it’s just this that made me even happier for the outcome of both events. On one hand you have Impact, new to Mondays and putting on one hell of a show for the fans that were smart enough to tune into Spike, and the other, an absolute abomination of a TV telecast that bored the hell out of my TV screen for the majority. It was this ladies and gentlemen that made me raise the question, just who is the biggest and best wrestling company in the world meant to be? Because on this occasion it certainly wasn’t Vinnies clang attempting to stuff crap down people throats, cough, the Raw main event, cough.
On Impact we saw a lot of new faces, a lot of old ones, and a few surprises, but one hell of an exciting show. Hogan was dressed to impress tonight, kitted out in the full Red and yellow, O yes, Hulk and Abyssamania were certainly running wild on TNA, this followed by a major swerve heel turn from the returning Sting made great TV, giving the Hulkster and Abyss one hell of a savage beating and pushing the tag match back into the main event later on in the night.
Thus also resulting in TNA President, Dixie Carter putting Sting in a match later on in the show against a surprise opponent, which ended up being Mr Monday Night, RVD. Getting by far the biggest pop of the night, all bar Jeff Hardy at the end of the show, and picking up a quick win over Sting, setting up a feud between the two. The Impact Zone live crowd were on fire, not one person in their seat, jumping to the rafters, this was also one of the ingredients that made Impact the better show, actually having a live crowd instead of the graveyard over on Raw, a much more appealing look for TV.
The actual matches involved in Orlando weren’t to shabby either, a last minute three way X Division title match, between Doug Williams, Kazarian and Christopher Daniels, whilst Raw were treated to a short and very unattractive match involving The Miz and The Big Slow. Again, if the US viewers were smart enough to actually watch Impact, they’ll have seen a match with twice the quality of that of what Raw had on it’s whole show, and that’s from TNA’s mid carders? Need I say anymore.
That and the crowning of the new TNA Knockouts Tag Team Champions, although the match wasn’t the greatest, again, it shone above anything those barbie doll divas could do on Raw and again would have been a great attraction to new Impact viewers. The Beautiful People walked out with the belts thanks to a interference from Daffney, again, someone you would never see on WWE TV.A great alternative.
As for the actual main event, well, as a TNA fan whose been waiting for this night for the best part of four years, I and the rest of the wrestling world was not disappointed. Hogan and Abyss completely tore the house down, in a good way as well, Hogan was left for Flair and Abyss with AJ as everyone had hoped, and Hogan actually looked quite good, busting Flair’s head wide open [seriously that guy needs to cut down on the blading] and unleashing some fiery shots with daughter Brooke looking on happily in the background.
The ending was as exciting as anything Raw had to offer as well, whilst Raw put on what could possibly be one of the worst things I’ve ever seen including Cena, Vince, Batista and a load of other unknown mid carders, TNA put on a mayhem clinic in Universal Studios. Before unleashing it’s final surprise of the night, Jeff Hardy coming to the ring to save Hogan, Abyss and The Pope from the ravenous beating from Wolfe, Flair and AJ. As you can imagine the crowd went absolutely ballistic and if the wrestling fans have any sense they should know were to tune in either next week, or in two weeks time when Impact goes live once again.
With the debuts of RVD, Hardy and Shannon Moore to add to the list of the TNA roster, can anyone actually argue that TNA don’t have what it takes to compete with that distracting sports entertainment company up north? I don’t think so. If TNA carry on like this for the next 6 months and Raw keeps on bringing the house down with a bag full of crap, very soon people will turn over, and people will watch Impact over Raw, it’s just now, a matter of getting Wrestlemania out of the way, and TNA are cleanly on their way to greatness.
Ryan Devlin.
